Neighbors - Everyday Heroes
-
"Road" to Kindness
So far, 263 Idahoans have reporting driving neighbors to essential medical appointments, work, funeral viewings, picking up prescriptions or children from school, even midnight airport runs.
Not only transporting those post-surgery, many stay to help them settle in and make meals. It’s heartwarming to read about aiding those with car trouble — from road-side assistance to dead batteries, Idahoans are there to help.
Not counted are the amazing people that drive around to pick up for food pantries. Next time you’re out, wave to a neighbor—there’s a good chance they’re in the middle of an act of kindness.
-
Creative Ways to "Pay" it forward
Thousands of Idahoans have found creative ways to provide kindness. Including paying for: someone’s drive-thru meal, groceries for neighbors or strangers, strangers at a gas station, funeral costs, paying off school lunch debt or paying for students’ lunch, buying classroom lights for a struggling school, diapers for a sick neighbor, flowers for neighbors, and even buying clothing for college students and medication for those in need.
-
Seconds shared, lives changed
189 Idahoans have helped or visited a neighbor in the hospital or just getting home from the hospital.
1,300+ Idahoans have helped provide a meal for someone — whether taking dinner or treat to a neighbor, or inviting a friend to lunch.
500+ Idahoans have visited assisted living centers, senior centers, or veterans homes to and spent quality time and connection together.
-
Idaho Falls Community
“2000 roses delivered with handmade Valentines to bring a little love to widows, single and elderly neighbors. We can’t reach everyone, but 2000 is a good start!”
-
Several neighbors across Idaho are transforming homes to improve accessibility. Several are providing incredible upgrades like custom wheelchair ramps, handrails, and home repairs for those neighbors using wheelchairs.
-
Dirty Hands, Kind Hearts
Idaho is built on hard work and these example of some of our submissions show the world that it still continues today:
Cleaned out irrigation ditches for widowed neighbors, fixing water leaks and repairing roofs after tree-fallen damage. Incredible groups of Idahoans gather to chop wood to help keep their neighbors warm through the Winter (photo from Coeur d'Alene). We also love hearing about youth cleaning up cemeteries and parks.
-
Harvesting Hope
“Neighbors helping neighbors” by caring for chickens, hauling livestock for a neighbor, performing medical emergency procedures on livestock for neighbors, collecting unused food for livestock, helping neighbors harvest potatoes during stressful deadlines or even volunteering at charitable potato farms.
We know so many more kind acts like these are happening all around us.
-
"Wrapped" in Love
Over 1,000 Idahoans have helped sew quilts or collect blankets — whether for a local charity or a friend/neighbor. Truly wrapping a neighbor in love…
-
Kindness Behind the Curtain
With 323 submissions and counting, Idahoans are shining a light on the "unseen" dedication that makes the arts possible. From the meticulous work of sewing costumes and painting props to the heavy lifting of building sets and ushering guests, these volunteers create the magic behind every performance.
We’ve even seen quiet acts of service like repairing broken choir risers or conducting free community concerts. In Idaho, the arts are thriving—powered by an army of volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes. (Photo: Rupert/Burley area)
